We are not sure what happened here ...

Connor decided (not true, I did) it would be good to have an authentic Japanese dinner. We tried to find a real place and see how well we could do. The verdict is unclear.

We took a picture of the first page of the menu. Items included, ears of pork, tongue of pork, and brains of pork. The next page of the menu featured a variety of frog options including fried frog. While I came close to ordering the fried frog, we went for soup.

This where is where gets weird. We were served three gigantic bowls of soup. We tried to eat the soup with the utensils we had with little success. The staff saw us struggle and offered to bring us forks which I quickly refused. (This was an attempt at an authentic Japanese meal.)

After eating what we could, we noticed a large stack of small bowls on the table. After looking at the other tables, we noticed everyone else eating out of the small bowls. Everyone else was using the small bowls to share food from the large bowls. No wonder the staff was looking at us funny.

We left laughing and learning a little bit more about life in Tokyo. At least for a few more hours, when we saw other native Japanese eating directly out of bowls like we were at another location.

Did we do the right thing or not? We do not know. This is why you have to travel to really experience the differences.
