This was the main reason for the bus tour. This memorial is amazing! There is an outside area where they show a time line of Pear Harbor from the attack to today. Next is a 20 minute movie with the history of Pearl Harbor. Next is a ship ride out to the USS Arizona Memorial. This was impressive and well worth anyone's time when you are here. One great irony about the Memorial was that almost everyone was using Japanese cameras (inclusive) to take pictures.
You would think that getting Internet would be very easy as you move across the distances we have. Unfortunately that has not been the case. We are now at a location where Internet connectivity is available, however somewhat unreliable. It seems strange that we finally had to get on a ship (Yes, we have much more to tell. However the current Internet connection may be better in the morning.) for that to occur. Oh well, the updates should be much more regular for the duration of the trip.
We usually don't tell everyone before we take these trips. It is a lot of fun to share the trip with everyone as it goes on. April 5, is Roger's Birthday. The blog had not yet been updated. When asked where we were, we could truthfully answer, "On a bus!"
I am not a fan of structured tour operated travel. Usually there are large tour busses with the hurry up and wait mentality. Yes, it happened for us this time. Arrive at the bus at 6:45 AM. All but two people show up. We wait for the stragglers for over 30 minutes and finally leave at 7:30. Once the bus got started, the half day tour was positive.
The picture does not do it justice. The view from our hotel room at night was amazing. We could see the nightline, the ocean, and a fireworks show.
One of our goals in travel is to time shift right away. We did it in California (-3) and London (+5). This trip was difficult (-6). Our goal was to stay up until 9:00 PM local time. That was the equivalent of 3:00 AM home time. We all crashed between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Close enough. A 5:00 AM wake up time was exactly what we needed for the next leg of the adventure.
Traveling is interesting. The farther you go the larger the impact of time zone changes. When you go east, you loose time. When you go west, you gain time. Loosing / gaining a few hours is easy to deal with. Gaining 6 hours, well we will just have to see how that goes. It is still daylight and there are things to see and do. Hopefully you can tell from the picture exactly where we are. This is going to be an amazing week.
